National Championships and Festivals of Kazakhstan

Main Idea: Kazakhstan boasts one of the most active and developed educational robotics scenes in the CIS. In addition to qualifying stages for world leagues (such as WRO, VEX, and FIRST), the country hosts many of its own prestigious championships and festivals.

What makes it special? These events serve as the main platform for developing the engineering community within the country, identifying talents from all regions, and forming a national engineering school.

Key Competitions in Kazakhstan:

  • Robotek Grand Tournament (RGT): A major republican tournament, often held with the support of the «Daryn» Republican Scientific Practical Center. It gathers winners of regional selection rounds from all over the country and is focused on identifying the strongest for the national team.
  • Roboland (Festival): A large-scale international festival traditionally held in Karaganda. It is famous not only for competitions (in dozens of categories) but also for a huge exhibition, creative projects, and the atmosphere of a «celebration of technology.»
  • Robotex Kazakhstan: This is the national qualifying stage of the global competition Robotex International (which originated in Estonia). Winners of the Kazakhstan stage earn the right to represent the country at the world final.
  • Almaty Tech Cup: A major open championship, often held at leading universities in Almaty (for example, KBTU or Satbayev University). It gathers strong teams in popular classic disciplines such as robo-sumo, line racing, and maze solving.
  • RoboZerde: A republican intellectual contest or olympiad, often focusing not only on robot assembly but also on project activities and the depth of algorithm programming.

General Goal: To identify and support talented children and youth from all over the republic, create a competitive environment, develop a national engineering school, and form national teams to represent the country on the world stage.
